Welcome to the African Bush

Join us for a unique wildlife safari in the heart of Africa in three of the continent’s most beautiful countries – Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Our trip will centre around the region’s main attraction: the Zambezi River and its famous waterfall. Victoria Falls is unlike anywhere else in the world, its awe-inspiring power and size are a bombardment of the senses with the Kalolo-Lozi people naming it ‘the smoke that thunders.’ The border regions of the three countries provide lush vegetation around the falls which will contrast with the vast savannah plains of Zimbabwe’s interior, providing a variety of African backdrops in which to enjoy an authentic safari experience.

A range of animals from colossal elephants to ferocious felines and giraffes to the wart hog can be witnessed on game drives through famous Chobe and Hwange National Parks, as well as the opportunity to meet lions and elephants face to face. The ‘Big Five’ and boundless wild and natural wonders are only half the charm of this area as we discover a new culture, with visits to local villages to share traditional meals and folk stories with our welcoming hosts.

Saturday 18th November

Today we depart the UK and begin our journey to Africa.

Overnight on flight.

Sunday 19th November

After arriving in Victoria Falls we will transfer to our accommodation and have the rest of the day to settle in and soak up the atmosphere of being meters from the falls themselves. Our lodge is based next to one of the Zambezi’s many smaller tributaries, making the area a hive of nature and stunning wildlife.

We will undoubtedly spot some big cats during our safari’s, but before we discover their prides, this afternoon is the chance to begin our trip by walking with them!  The lions are unrestrained and roam free as you join them on a walk through vegetation and African bush.

Overnight in Zambia.

Monday 20th November

This morning we depart on a tour to the majestic Victoria Falls. The Local people call it “Mosi-oa-Tunya”– the smoke that thunders.  It is positioned almost exactly half way along the Zambezi River’s 2700 km journey from its source to the sea. Here the river plunges headlong into a 100m vertical chasm spanning the full one-and-a-half kilometre width of the river. The falls is one of the natural wonders of the world and is roughly twice as high as Niagara falls. During November’s dry season we will be able to see both the falls and its rocky gorge. You will be accompanied through the Rainforest and along the paths overlooking the falls by one of our Guides who will give a brief history of the Falls themselves as well as detailing the flora, fauna, bird & wildlife that inhabit the area.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Zambia.

Tuesday 21st November

This morning we transfer by road to Hwange, an unspoilt wilderness with excellent game viewing opportunities. After arriving and having some time to familiarise ourselves with our safari lodge we will head out on our first game drive on a private concession. Our expert guide will lead us on an exploration as we track a variety of fantastic animals on the game reserve..  Hwange boasts a tremendous selection of wildlife with over 100 species of mammals and nearly 400 bird species recorded. The elephants of Hwange are world famous and the Park’s elephant population is one of the largest in the world.  Alongside elephants, lions, rhino, buffalo, zebra, giraffe and hyena are among the many species that we may encounter.

Breakfast, lunch & dinner included. Overnight in Hwange.

Wednesday 22nd November

On today’s game drive we head into Hwange National Park. Named after a local Nhanzwa chief, Hwange National Park is the largest game reserve in Zimbabwe occupying roughly 14 650 square kilometres. It became the royal hunting grounds to the Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi in the early 19th Century and was set aside as a National Park in 1929.  All Zimbabwe’s specially protected animals are to be found in Hwange and it is the only protected area where gemsbok and brown hyena occur in reasonable number. Our guide will teach us some tracking techniques as we seek out more of the park’s ‘big 5′ on this authentic safari experience.

The afternoon is free to relax at leisure and as evening sets in we can enjoy uninterrupted views of spectacular African sunsets.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.  Overnight in Hwange.

Thursday 23rd November

Before we depart Hwange we will stock up with a hearty breakfast before venturing to the reserves Painted dog centre which helps to rehabilitate and care for the areas Painted dog community. The centre is helping to rehabilitate and release into the wild this fascinating and unique creature nonetheless.

We will then make our way to our luxury hotel in Victoria Falls town, where we have the rest of the day to settle in.  Victoria Falls is a town in the western portion of Zimbabwe and lies immediately next to the falls. The small town is less than two kilometers south of the Zambezi River and the border to Zambia. A stroll through the Victoria Falls village will give you a sense of this true frontier town, with the sound of the falls crashing down in the background.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Victoria Falls.

Friday 24th November

Today we will feel the true warmth and hospitality of the region and its people. We will visit local village tour which enables you to see rural life first hand; visiting rural homes, watching their fields being tended and possibly getting the chance to help in some of the day-to-day chores.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Victoria Falls.

Saturday 25th November

On today’s day trip we venture into Botswana to the Chobe national park. On this exciting day trip we head out in search of more wildlife. We will be transferred to the Kazungula border where our Botswana Guide will meet us. From here we proceed straight to the River for a morning cruise game viewing along the Chobe River. During our boat cruise we might hear some hippos wallowing in the shallows, or perhaps a crocodile or two!- keep all limbs on board! This unique and relaxing way of game viewing will allow you to view the great African wildlife from a different point of view.  After lunch, we board safari vehicles for an afternoon game drive in the Chobe National Park where you will have the opportunity to enjoy an abundance of wildlife. The Chobe Game Reserve is famous for its enormous elephant population – it is said that 45 000 of these interesting creatures roam the plains of Chobe. They share almost 10 000sq km with lion, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, buffalo, approximately 450 bird species, as well as puku and Chobe bushbuck, which are indigenous to Chobe National Park.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Victoria Falls.

Sunday 26th November

It is an enchanting route and nothing can rival the orange sun disappearing beyond the horizon as birds sing and hippos and crocodiles watch on peacefully.
