Welcome to Holland

Join us for a Traveleyes first! Our premier tandem cycling holiday will take place in Holland’s green heart. For the duration of the holiday each sighted guide will be paired with a visually impaired traveller on a tandem bike each day for a cycling route through Holland. We will stay on our very own private river barge that will meet us in the centre of Amsterdam. From the capital, we will take to the water and begin to explore Holland’s verdant and luscious interior via its tranquil waterways.

Each day, we shall disembark our barge and cycle past quaint villages and windmills that line the perfectly flat countryside. Following a day of cycling, our river barge will meet us at the end of the route to accommodate us overnight. Traversing through Holland’s lake district, we’ll stop to enjoy typical Dutch delights along the way in Rotterdam, Haarlem, Leiden and Gouda all providing cultural intrigue and each possessing their own uniquely Dutch charm.

Saturday 30th September

Arrive into Amsterdam and transfer to our comfortable river barge accommodation moored in the centre of Amsterdam. We will have a chance to explore some of Amsterdam before we reconvene to be welcomed by the warm and friendly crew and receive our first welcome dinner and briefing on board.

Sunday 1st October

Today we embark on our first cycling excursion, we will first visit the Zaanse Schans Museum, where an authentic 18th century Dutch village has been perfectly reproduced and maintained. We will explore Dutch heritage and its connections with windmills, cheese and clog making. We will continue our cycle to Haarlem, home of famed portraitist Frans Hals before spending the evening at leisure in the quaint city centre and Grote Market.

Monday 2nd October

Today we will cycle Holland’s beautiful North Sea Coast. We will cruise past sand dunes to the resorts of Noordwijk and Katwick aan Zee. Our journey shall conclude in Leiden, a city of traditional 17th century Dutch buildings and an intricate network of canals.

Tuesday 3rd October

Our route today will be from Leiden to Delft. Renowned for an abundance of splendid blue porcelain, Delft has been a household name for centuries thanks to its historic porcelain studios. The city also provides plenty of Dutch history as it is home to the crypt of the House of Orange. From Delft you also have the opportunity to visit The Hague – by bicycle, tram or train.

Wednesday 4th October

Our day will begin by sailing through Rotterdam before disembarking in Kinderdijk. This extraordinary UNESCO cultural heritage site is home to a row of no less than 19 windmills. From Kinderdijk we will continue our cycling adventure to Gouda, via the silver city of Schoonhoven. You will get the chance to explore this famous city of cheese before returning to board our vessel this evening.

Thursday 5th October

Today we will truly appreciate the natural beauty of Holland’s interior. Canals, farms and idyllic villages make up the verdantly green wetlands. Our mooring place will be in a tranquil location on the shores of the Westeinder Plassen.

Overnght in Kudelstaart. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Friday 6th October

Today you may wish to visit the largest plant market in the world at Aalsmeer. Beginning early in the morning, this international auction for colourful plants and fragrant flowers is world-famous and can be witnessed from a special gallery.

You then have the choice of whether you wish to remain on our boat as it cruises into the centre of Amsterdam or cycle into Amsterdam through along the banks of the Amstel river. After arrival in Amsterdam we have the afternoon and evening at leisure to explore the city. There are a huge number of options such as the Anne Frank Museum, the Van Gogh and Rembrandt Museums and the Royal Palace. We will dine moored in central Amsterdam for the last time on our floating residence.

Saturday 7th October

Today we disembark for the last time and enjoy some free time before returning to the airport for our flight home.
