Breakfast included. Overnight in Arequipa.

Saturday 19th August

A half day city tour of Arequipa and the Santa Catalina Monastery. This begins with the extraordinary architecture of the Convent of Santa Catalina, re-opened to the public in 1970 after more than 400 years. From there, we proceed to the Plaza de Armas, the Cathedral, and the Church of La Compañia, with its treasure trove of colonial jewels and its Jesuit Sistine Chapel. Breakfast included. Overnight in Arequipa.

Sunday 20th August

Today is a day at leisure to relax and discover Arequipa, the perfect opportunity to explore the markets and museums of this prestigious city. Wednesday 23rd August

Saturday 26th August

Full day excursion to Machu Picchu by train. We journey through the remainder of the Sacred Valley to these unique and magnificent mountaintop ruins. The astonishing remoteness of Machu Picchu enabled it to escape discovery by the Spanish conquerors during the entire period of their occupation. In subsequent centuries, the site lay buried in foliage until Hiram Bingham uncovered it in 1911. Our guided tour of these rare ruins provides an insight into how the city would have appeared at the height of the Incan Empire. Our travels continue by train to Cusco, historic capital of the Incan Empire. Although the city was sacked in 1535, numerous Incan buildings and foundations survive, including the original Incan city walls.

Breakfast included Overnight in Cusco.
