Below is the itinerary for the holiday. Please click each day for more information.

Wednesday 21st June

Arrive in Alnwick and explore its atmospheric cobbled streets before congregating at our historic hotel for our welcome dinner this evening.

Dinner Included. Overnight in Alnwick.

Thursday 22nd June

Today we will visit the vast property of Alnwick Castle and Gardens, the seat of the Dukes of Northumberland. Alnwick Castle’s exterior was suitably spectacular to double as J.K Rowling’s Hogwarts in the first Harry Potter film. As well as its fictional importance, it’s interior boasts many fantastic historic pieces. Our private state rooms tour will enlighten us on works by Canaletto, Titian, and Van Dyck.

We next visit Alnwick Garden, touted as one of the world’s most contemporary outdoor spaces with features including the Grand Cascade, Bamboo Labyrinth and even a Poison Garden!

Breakfast included. Overnight in Alnwick.

Friday 23rd June

Journey north to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. We will time our approach carefully so we can get across the causeway before it disappears below the sea, isolating the island. This has left the island a fantastically well preserved relic. The little town boasts a producer of mead, and many old fashioned buildings to explore on our guided tour. The island produces a sensory experience with crackling seaweed under foot and the sound of the seals howling. The eerie castle juts out into the skyline to produce one of the UK’s most unique skyscapes.

Next, venture south through Northumberland’s rugged coastline to Bamburgh Castle. This striking fortification stands atop a basalt outcrop dominating the surrounding area. Having been the location of a fort since before the Romans, the site has been contested in numerous wars over the centuries before the local industrialist Armstrong family bought and restored the castle in the 19th century.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Alnwick.

Saturday 24th June

This Morning before our departure you may wish to venture to one more of Northumberland’s quaint seaside towns – we suggest Alnmouth. Alternatively, why not indulge in a bit of retail therapy in the artisan boutiques and antique shops in the heart of Alnwick before departing Northumberland.

Breakfast included.
