Friday 9th June

We transfer from Verona airport to our hotel in Peschiera del Garda

Overnight in Peschiera.

Saturday 10th June

Today is a day at your leisure to explore the delights of Lake Garda’s shores. We suggest you make the short trip by boat to historic Sirmione. A peninsula juts out into the Lake and transports you through Italy’s rich history with a grotto, fortress, roman ruins and thermal baths. Re-emerge into the present with a cappuccino and pastry on a jetty protruding into the Lake.  If you fancy something more exhilarating, why not venture onto the water in one of the numerous vessels that sail around the Sirmione peninsula.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Peschiera del Garda.

Sunday 11th June

Today we will make the short train trip East to the city of Verona. By tradition Verona is the home of Shakespeare’s most famous lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Whether you are enamoured with the ancient legend or 16th century literature, or neither, there is something in the atmosphere of Verona which speaks powerfully to the emotions and to the senses.

Verona is certainly no stranger to antiquity and its fine townscape includes one of the best preserved ancient Roman amphitheatres in Italy. Among a host of other local features, we visit Juliet’s house in Via Capello. Here you may even catch the drama of the ‘balcony scene’ being re-enacted in-situ by actors.

We also visit ‘Romeo’s house’ and the remarkable tombs of the Scala Family, dynastic lords who ruled Verona from the late thirteenth century until the late fourteenth century. These tomb structures are considered the most representative surviving examples of Italian Gothic architecture and sculpture.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Peschiera del Garda

Monday 12th June

Today you may wish to visit Desenzano del Garda – another glorious and quintessential Italian town seated on Lake Garda. Alternatively, why not venture South of Peschiera to the quaint village of Valeggio Sul Mincio. Like Desenzano it is tranquil and charming, but comes with its own unique idiosyncrasies. Vallegio is believed to be the birthplace of the tortellini.  The story goes that two star-crossed lovers tying two golden handkerchiefs together and left on bridge as they fled pursuing soldiers.

Ten minutes from Vallegio is Custoza. Here if you so choose you can turn your hand to making, followed by the gratifying conclusion of sampling the local delicacy of Tortellini.

Breakfast Included. Overnight in Peschiera del Garda.

Tuesday 13th June

This morning we will saunter around Peschiera, our charming lakeside retreat. Its Roman influences are evident on nearly every street corner. Shadowed by the majestic backdrop of the Dolomite Mountains and covered in verdant greenery, it is the perfect place to explore its history or relax with a gelato or coffee.

No trip to Italy, and particularly the Veneto region, would be complete without a trip to a Vineyard. Our handpicked selection has perfected its methods and tastes over decades. You will be given an informative tour of their property before sampling several of their delicious produces.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Peschiera del Garda.

Wednesday 14th June

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel. You can enjoy the day at leisure to relax and explore the local area and all the wonderful culinary treats and cultural marvels that surround the lake. Alternatively, you could hop on the train and head East through Verona to the city of Vicenza. Vicenza and the Palladian Villas were added to UNESCO’s list of world heritage sites in 1994. Andrea Palladio is perhaps the most famed architect ever. Nothing can compare to the unique style and elegance of Palladio’s buildings and central Vicenza is filled with them. In the Piazza del Signori, you are dwarfed by the magnificence of the Loggia del Capitano and Basilica Palladiana. Several museums pay homage to Palladio, in particular the Museo Naturalistico Archaeologico which provides us with insight into the subtler beauty of Vicenza with fine art and sculpture to savour.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Peschiera del Garda.

Thursday 15th June

Today we will venture off the beaten track for the average Lake Garda tourist. We’ll journey to Gardone on the western shores of the Lake. In this picturesque and quintessentially Italian village there hides a secluded gem. The villa and museum of Italian writer, poet, playwright, soldier and nationalist Gabriele D’Annuzio. The controversial writer lived here after his political exile – money was funnelled into the hillside estate by the government to try and tranquilise D’Annuzio.  A property and grounds that you really have to visit to comprehend, it contains a mausoleum, an amphitheatre and a beached Italian naval vessel. Explore one of Italy’s most fascinating public figures and his collection of unique trinkets

Spend the afternoon relaxing in pristine and tasteful Gardone Riviera.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Peschiera del Garda.

Friday 16th June

Spend one final morning, unwinding and basking in the sunshine on the Lake’s southern shores, before transferring to the airport for your flight home.

Breakfast included.
