Welcome to Canterbury
The beautiful medieval city of Canterbury offers the ultimate way to enjoy the lead-up to Christmas in truly authentic Chaucerian style. Amid the silvery sounds of carol singers and the aroma of roast chestnuts, bid the most seasonal of good tidings to friends new and old over a traditional Christmas lunch before a foray into the various craft and gift stalls of the Christmas markets. Your stay in Canterbury will be enhanced by a ghost tour, local beer tasting and a Canterbury Tales costume performance.
Written by Geoffrey Chaucer in the late 14th century, The Canterbury Tales are a work of prose and verse presented as part of a story-telling contest by a group of pilgrims travelling from London to Canterbury to visit the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket, offering an unprecedented insight into medieval life and the development of the English language.
